Why can’t we all just have great skin? Many of us seem to be wondering in exasperation how it’s possible for some people not to even think about skin care and yet have great skin, while others spend a fortune on skin care products that promise a holy grail solution to the problems that mock us in the mirror. It can be really frustrating, to say the least. But to think that great skin is impossible is simply wrong. While some people seem to have it in their blood to have perfect skin, others just need to put in a bit more effort to achieve it.
Here is your ordinary girl’s guide to achieving the skin that you have always dreamed of, cut down to the realistic, practical, and doable tips that every regular Jane can do while juggling work and life.
Drink water first thing in the morning
When your stomach is empty and you have just woken up, forget the #justwokeup selfie and get a glass of refreshing water instead. Do this every morning, as water helps to jumpstart your internal organs, livens up your system, and fuels your body for the grueling day ahead. As taken for granted as water is, it is essential in maintaining good health and – you’ve thought it – good skin.
Water also flushes out toxins from our bodies. When the inside of your body is clean and running smoothly, it will eventually show on the outside.
Be gentle to your skin
Wash your face twice: Once in the morning and once in the evening before bedtime. But make sure that your cleanser does not strip your skin of the natural oils that it needs in order to maintain its pH balance. When you use harsh products that leave your skin dry, your skin will produce more sebum, which in turn heightens your chances of (drumroll, please) having a breakout. The papaya enzyme in Zeta White Lightening Cleanser is a really good skin lightener that also tackles skin issues like active pimples.
Choose products that have natural, organic, and safe ingredients. Steer clear of products that have parabens or other harsh chemicals that may irritate your skin. If you already have acne-prone skin, you should know that attacking your skin with harsh, irritating chemicals will only make matters worse.
When selecting products, look instead for the words hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic, or gentle. If you have to have products with actives, choose those that are natural and non-irritant.
One of the things that we often neglect is what we put inside our body. Because we can’t see the immediate results of what we eat, we think we can eat junk and get away with it. Well, no. Whatever is happening on the inside will eventually show on the outside. And if you are feeding yourself garbage, you can’t expect your skin to reflect otherwise. The topical products that we apply can only do so much. The more long-term effects of the state of our health have to be addressed early on if we want to look good.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
Sometimes, when we think we look tired or dull or darker, it’s only because our skin is not getting and retaining enough moisture. Dryness can quickly lead to dullness, wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, and uneven skin tone. It’s very easy to neglect because on the surface we can’t immediately appreciate what moisturizing does.
When choosing a moisturizer, go for one that already has lightening capabilities so that you deal with the lack of moisture and address the traces of that dryness at the same time. The great thing is that moisturizers, like Zeta White moisturizer with licorice as its brightening ingredient, actually aid lightening products by helping you absorb the nutrients better. This helps the lightening actives to work more effectively.
Go for lightening instead of bleaching
The skin tone that you think looks best on you is up to you. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to be lighter. However, to achieve this, avoid bleaches, instant whiteners, and the like, and go instead for natural lightening products or natural methods of skin lightening. Why? Bleaching may sound like the more attractive option because often it promises instant results. And, true enough, you will see results in a relatively short period of time. However, the side effects of bleaching far outweigh its benefits.
Complexion usually becomes white instead of lighter, and overall, the look is unnatural. Why go for paper-white when you can instead sport a glowing complexion?
Never go out without sunscreen
If you already have dark marks, acne scars, and pigmentation, sun exposure will only make them more noticeable and pronounced. Wrinkles also deepen with frequent exposure to sunlight. Invest in a good sunscreen, and no matter if it’s not too sunny out, never step outdoors without sunscreen.
Pamper your skin with face masks
Face masks are a fun way to treat yourself every now and then. Make it a point to do a face mask once a week, depending on the needs of your skin. For acne treatment, a simple honey and cinnamon concoction will go a long way. Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, while cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties. This will help calm down your skin if the breakout is bad and you have several painful, angry cystic pimples having a little party of their own on your face. Leave the mask on for as long as you have time, and your skin will thank you big time.
Be nice to yourself
Whatever state your skin is in today, be nice to yourself. Don’t forget that you’re beautiful – you’re just on your way to being beautiful-er!
